Courses & Learning

Becoming Friends

Becoming Friends: Living and Learning with Quakers is an innovative learning project from Woodbrooke and Quaker Life which aims to nurture and support those who are new to Friends: it provides a flexible, interactive course & a range of ways for Quaker meetings to support newcomers as they learn. Becoming Friends will help newcomers develop an understanding of Quakerism, while exploring their own journey and connection with Friends – whether or not they are currently considering applying for membership.

The Becoming Friends course

Becoming Friends: Living & learning with Quakers is now available both online and in paper format, providing Quaker meetings with an innovative new way to help introduce newcomers to Quakerism and Quakers. The Becoming Friends online course costs £20 for a two-year subscription and the paper pack costs £10.

  • Instructions for accessing a free demonstration of the Becoming Friends course or signing up for the full Becoming Friends online course are available here - simply click on the links below or on the right. Both the free demo and the full course are available on Woodbrooke’s Moodle site at http://moodle.woodbrooke.org.uk . If you experience any difficulties with accessing the demo or enrolling on the course, please do not hesitate to contact us at becoming.friends@woodbrooke.org.uk.
  • You can order the paper pack from the Quaker Centre bookshop at www.quaker.org.uk/bookshop tel: 020 7663 1030 email: bookshop@quaker.org.uk .

Meetings may wish to buy paper packs or online registration both for newcomers taking the Becoming Friends course and the experienced Friends acting as ‘companions’. There is more information about Becoming Friends and downloadable guidance for meetings available by clicking the links.

Becoming Friends course materials now available in accessible formats

If you would like to do the Becoming Friends online course but aren’t sure how accessible it will be for you, we’ve now produced guidance for Friends with visual impairment or other access needs about working with our online course on Moodle. We can provide additional support to help you get enrolled on the course and to make sure the online materials are accessible for you.

In addition, for Friends who cannot access the course in standard print formats or online, the Becoming Friends course materials are also now available as electronic files (Word, rtf or pdf formats) or an A3 large print version. The electronic files can easily be converted to audio too.

For more information about accessible formats click the link. If you have any questions about accessible format materials or want to discuss your access needs, contact us at becoming.friends@woodbrooke.org.uk
