Information for Guests

We aspire for Woodbrooke to be more welcoming, nourishing and inspiring than any other guest house. Woodbrooke is a Quaker Study Centre, where Quakers and others come to study for a few days or a few weeks. Visitors stay here for its peace and quiet, its ten acres of organically-managed gardens and the fantastic location from which to explore Birmingham and beyond.

When should I arrive?

Your bedroom will be ready from 2pm on the day of your arrival. If you arrive before 2pm we are very happy to hold your belongings in our luggage store until your room is ready. On arrival, please go to Reception where we will sign you in and give you a name badge and key card, which will give you access to all the buildings and rooms that you will be using during your stay.

What if I am delayed?

If your arrival is delayed, please contact the administration team on 0121 472 5171, 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Outside these times call 0121 415 6795 to leave a message or 07810 417155 to speak to the person on duty. If you are arriving after 7pm and would like a meal saved for you, please just let us know in advance.

Our front doors are closed at 10pm. We want to welcome you and ensure that there is someone to show you to your room, so please inform us in advance if you will be arriving after 10pm.

What should I bring with me?

Woodbrooke provides towels, liquid soap and shampoo, hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities in all bedrooms. Please remember to bring your own toiletries and alarm clock. We also have a shop in Reception that stocks stationery and a range of environmentally-friendly toiletries.

Who can I speak to if I need assistance?

Our administration office (normal weekday office hours) and our volunteer Friends in Residence (outside of office hours) will be on hand to help you during your stay and answer any practical questions about Woodbrooke. Our Friends in Residence uphold the Quaker worship and ethos at Woodbrooke and provide pastoral and practical care. If you need assistance during the night, the Friend in Residence on duty can be contacted by dialling 777 on a one of the red telephones in the building, or by calling 07810 417155 if you have a mobile.

Is there any security at Woodbrooke?

Our front door is locked at 10pm, but can be opened with your room key card. Your bedroom will only be accessible via a key card. Please wear your name badge at all times when on-site at Woodbrooke. To ensure the safety and security of everyone here, please inform the Administration Office or the Friends in Residence if you have any guests.

Can I smoke or drink at Woodbrooke?

Woodbrooke is an alcohol-free building. Alcohol is not permitted in any of the public areas, which includes all meeting rooms, kitchens and the grounds. There is an allocated smoking area in the grounds and butt bins by all the entrances.

When can I get a meal?

Breakfast  7.45 - 9.00am (Monday - Saturday)
  8.00 - 9.00am (Sunday and Bank Holidays)

Tea and biscuits or cake are served at 10.45 - 11.15am and 4.00 - 4.30pm

Lunch 12.45 - 1.45pm
Evening Meal 6.15 - 7.15pm

How often are the rooms cleaned?

As we are primarily a study centre and many of our guests use their bedrooms for study during the day, we like to leave guests undisturbed and normally service bedrooms once a week. If you prefer a daily service, please inform us on arrival and we will happily arrange this.

When should I vacate the room?

Please vacate your bedroom by 10.30am on the day of departure. If you would like somewhere to store your luggage after 10.30am on the day that you leave, we have a luggage store which you are very welcome to use.

We look forward to welcoming you to Woodbrooke!
