Woodbrooke at Yearly Meeting Gathering 2011

Woodbrooke had a very strong presence at Yearly Meeting Gathering in Canterbury in July 2011, with contributions ranging from delivering the Swarthmore Lecture to staffing the information stall. Tutors, staff and trustees in matching Woodbrooke t-shirts were clearly visible wherever they went.

This year’s Swarthmore lecture, entitled ‘Costing not less than everything: sustainability and spirituality in challenging times’ was given by Good Lives project leader, Pam Lunn. The book on which the lecture was based, is now on sale from the Woodbrooke bookshop, the Quaker Centre bookshop and online. It was just one contribution towards the declaration of the Quaker commitment to a low carbon footprint at the gathering. An audio only version of the lecture is also now available to buy - you can order your copy by contacting Deborah Gulliver (Senior Educational Administrator) by calling 0121 415 6779 or email deborah.gulliver@woodbrooke.org.uk, or download an order form.

We have had some very positive feedback following the lecture and it has inspired many people. If you were one of those people, we are running a follow up course entitled, 'The Time is Now' in September which you may be interested in. The Good Lives Project, which Pam Lunn leads, and which the Swarthmore Lecture drew deeply upon, also has courses taking place this Autumn and throughout 2012, including Good Lives: because we need to walk humbly as well as cheerfully in October 2011.

Other tutors were also in demand. Stuart Masters, Lizz Roe, Ginny Wall, Helen Rowlands, Maud Grainger, Gill Pennington and future tutor Simon Best ran sessions during the week on topics such as ‘How to become a Woodbrooke tutor’ and an ‘Introduction to Equipping for Ministry’, which were very well received.

A list of some of the Woodbrooke facilitated sessions from Canterbury is below. If you took part in these sessions and would like further related information and find out how you could follow up your Woodbrooke experience, please follow the links. Some of the links refer to related courses which you may be interested in.
