A Quaker Guide to Genesis

What can Genesis teach us about living inside flawed communities? Through the book’s sometimes tortuous depiction of broken and conflicted families, this course considers the joys and challenges of ‘finding that of God in everyone’, even in the midst of frayed relationships.

Throughout the five sessions, Friends will be encouraged to consider the characters of Genesis’ through the lens of their own lived experience. Learners will be invited to reconsider the overly familiar stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Abraham and Isaac, Haggar and Sarah, through personal eyes. Each character will be treated as a wise portal into our messy and contradictory humanity. What can we find of ourselves in these often-enigmatic characters? What remains inexplicable or challenging? In the latter part of the course Friends will be have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with the beloved Quaker phrase: ‘that of God in everyone’.

This course will involve:

Discussion, Online Learning Materials, Online discussion forum, Written and visual, Zoom Session
