Poetry for Spiritual Deepening and Reflection

In his poem Postscript, Seamus Heaney writes of an experience that can ‘catch the heart off guard and blow it open.’ Poetry holds this same power, to surprise, transform, and awaken. This session invites you to explore how poetry can deepen the spiritual journey and open the heart.

This session is not about literary analysis or critical reading, but about listening for the movement of the spirit within as the words sing, whisper or shout to us in our most personal experience.

We will be reading two poems together, related by a theme close to our Quaker values, that of Peace. We will be invited to respond and share, in a confidential space, some or all of what we write in small groups. Whether writing is new to you or not, we can hopefully share in deepening our spiritual exploration in a non-judgemental space.
