Quaker Visions of God

This course explores diverse visions of God found in Liberal Quaker communities today. Each weekly session offers Friends stories, images and tools for deepening their relationship with the Spirit experienced in their Quaker tradition.

What treasures do Friends have when speaking about God? What stories help or hinder us in our spiritual journey?

Each of the four weekly sessions will be structured around some prepared ministry from Ben and Windy, delving into their sources of spiritual inspiration, their struggles, and ongoing questions. Through this testimony (and corresponding activities) Friends will be invited to consider:

  • The meaning and scope of Theology (what does it mean to ‘put words around’ God)?
  • The stories/events that reveal God to us and each other
  • The things about God-talk that disturb or pain us
  • Unresolved spiritual questions that challenge us and help us grow
  • The unexpected sources that inspire and strengthen our theological reflection.

The goal of this course is to deepen and enlarge participants’ appreciation of theological sources, practices and themes. Friends will be encouraged to find in their own biographies the seeds of renewed spiritual growth and self-discovery.

There will be some material to look at before the first session. We will email you around one week prior to the course with information about accessing the course, including this material, on our online learning platform (Moodle).
