Sustaining our social witness can be deeply rewarding, but without care it may lead to burnout. This series offers embodied practices and Active Hope tools to build resilience in your community and create a lifelong toolkit for witness.
Each session in the series stands alone but also builds on the others. Across the three gatherings we will explore the themes of Head, Heart, and Hands. We will also be guided by Joanna Macy’s Spiral of the Work that Reconnects (Gratitude; Honouring our pain; Seeing with new eyes; Going forth).
This first session will focus on Head: we will be learning about trauma-informed approaches, including neuroscience and polyvagal theory, to support us to stay in the work of liberation whilst caring for our bodies, minds and hearts. We will also have space to explore our own specific contexts and why we are undertaking the witness we are doing in the world.
As Friends, we are called to live our faith in action. These sessions offer space to ground ourselves, tend to our bodies and spirits, and practice tools that help us stay steady and compassionate in the work of justice. It is designed for Friends involved in activism, whatever that might look like for you.
Together we will explore practical ways to resource ourselves – individually and in community – so that our witness can remain resilient, Spirit-led, and sustainable over time. Whether seasoned or just beginning, all are welcome to join in equipping for faithful action.
These sessions will be co-delivered by the Woodbrooke Racial and Social Justice Programme Coordinator and members of the Faith in Action team at Quakers in Britain.
