Seeing the Light: Reflections Through Images

Seeing the Light

Can we respond better to the Quaker Light by seeing, looking and understanding Nature’s light? This session invites you to view photographs as a form of visual ministry, discovering how the world around us can serve as ‘illuminations’ of our faith.

This thought-provoking and innovative session presents a collection of images by Quaker photographer, Duncan Dwinell. You will be encouraged to respond to his photo images, from Nature and the home, not as ‘Art’ but as promptings of the Light and as visual ministry, worthy of ‘Eye Regard’. Each image is coupled with a Quaker comment as a prompt for reflections on themes such as Advices & Queries, Simplicity, and Quiet Stillness.

This is not a photography course, but an exploration of perception and spiritual insight. While the images and texts speak for themselves, they are only the starting point for group discussion. The photographer will be present to answer questions and provide context.

This single session is expected to last between one and two hours. The participants’ responses will make up most of the time, therefore it’s length and outcome remain open ended.
