Have you ever wanted to find out more about slow stitching as a spiritual practice? These two sessions will help you explore how you might re-use fabric off cuts to create something new. Our time together will also be an opportunity to practice mindful stitching together.
In advance of the first session, you will need to gather together a small sewing kit, about 15 small pieces of fabric, several embellishments (odd buttons, old trimmings) and one large piece of plain fabric (e.g.an A4 or fat quarter of calico works well). Or you can also purchase ready to use Slow Stitch Kits (using old fabric offcuts) from Etsy or eBay.
Slow sewing is an invitation to pause and take a mindful approach to each next stitch. With a focus on the process of creating your textile art rather than aiming for a ‘finished’ product. These slow moments offer opportunities for reflection, enjoying the texture of the remnants and the colour of the embellishments. These items can be repurposed into your own unique craftwork or canvas collage.
Our Quaker commitments to setting aside regular times of quiet for openness to the Holy Spirit and living simply, mindful of using resources responsibly, will be woven through our time together.
