Spiritual Practices to Guide and Nurture

Throughout its existence Quakerism has held that all of life is sacred and that the call on our lives is to express and act upon what Love requires of us, in service to all. This outlook is rich and expansive, but can sometimes feel overwhelming in its apparently limitless demands on our time and energy, both within our Quaker communities and in the wider world. Therefore, in this course we offer the opportunity to counter this feeling by returning to the equally time-honoured Quaker practices of discernment of ‘leadings’ and self-nurture through spiritual refreshment. In our time together, we will learn of and experience Deep Listening, Meetings for Clearness, and various spiritual practices to nurture and sustain us.

The timing for our retreat is set so participants in various time zones will be able to gather comfortably. Some may wish to devote the whole weekend to retreat, using unscheduled portions for individual practice; others may choose to take part only in the scheduled Zoom sessions. With multiple breaks for comfort, learners will engage in pairs, small groups and with the whole group.

The Zoom room will open an hour before the session on Saturday and Sunday for participants to eat together and socialise together if they wish.

There will be some material to look at before the first session. We will email you around one week prior to the course with information about accessing the course, including this material, on our online learning platform (Moodle).
