“To be a Quaker is by no means to say goodbye to myth, ritual and symbol, but rather to find myself set free to discover them as the very essence of the way I now experience…” *
Come along to this session to explore the symbols that carry meaning for us.
In this session we will use a simple practice called ‘Story Weaving’. Story Weaving was developed by Forest Therapy Guide Ben Page. It is a practice in which we respond to a prompt by telling each other stories from our own life. While listening, we harvest the wisdom from each story we hear. Finally, our individual stories are interwoven in such a way that it builds a sense of community. In weaving these strands of wisdom together, something new is created, a story about us, by us and for us.
You will receive a prompt to prepare your story in advance (no longer than a page), and will be asked to share your story within the session. All you need is a pen, some blank sheets of paper and a little curiosity.
*The opening quotation is by Damaris Parker-Rhodes, Quaker Faith and Practice (Britain Yearly Meeting) 27.44.
