Can we respond better to the Quaker Light by seeing, looking and understanding Nature’s light?
This two-part course invites you to view photographs as a form of visual ministry, discovering how our journeys through, and perspectives of, the world around us can ‘illuminate’ our faith.
The first session of this thought-provoking and innovative course presents a collection of images by Quaker photographer, Duncan Dwinell, on the theme of ‘The Quaker Journey’. Each image is coupled with a Quaker comment as a prompt for reflection. You will be encouraged to respond to his photo images, from Nature and the home, not as ‘Art’ but as promptings of the Light and as visual ministry, worthy of ‘Eye Regard’. Duncan will be present to answer questions and provide context.
For the second session, participants will be invited to offer a single image of their own to share with the group as their own visual ministry. This session will be facilitated in the style of ‘worship-sharing’, with each person in turn having the opportunity (but no obligation) to show and speak briefly about their image, and to have their ministry received in attentive, loving silence. There will be some time at the end for participants to share their reflections on any images that have ‘spoken to their condition’.
This is not a photography course, but an exploration of perception and spiritual insight, and the use of images as ministry.
