Many people think that the Bible promotes patriarchy, but is that really God’s plan? Looking at the Bible as a whole, is patriarchy part of Gospel Order?
This 90-minute session introduces some stories that complicate a straightforward narrative about patriarchy in the Bible. These stories show some of the reasons for patriarchy as well as what Jesus said about what his followers could expect in Heaven.
You will reflect on short passages from the Bible with others, including through conversation in small groups. This session is led by Ashley M. Wilcox, author of The Women’s Lectionary: Preaching the Women of the Bible throughout the Year (Westminster John Knox Press, 2021).
