Quakers Do What! Why?
24 in stock
Why do (many) Quakers hold their worship in silence? How do Quaker communities make decisions? If you’ve recently discovered Quakers or don’t know much about us yet, you might have lots of questions about what we do and why. This course, based on Rhiannon Grant’s book of the same name, will address some of the most common questions people ask about Quakers and make space for you to ask your own. Through six live Zoom meetings (recorded in case you miss one), and with some reading and a discussion forum in between sessions, this course will provide a relaxed and informal space for anyone new to or curious about Quakers to get some answers.
Live sessions will be on Thursday evenings between 7.30 and 9.00 pm (UK time).
The book, Quakers do What! Why?, is available at https://www.johnhuntpublishing.com/christian-alternative-books/our-books/quaker-quicks-quakers-do-what-why
Rhiannon Grant works with Woodbrooke's Learning and Research Team and the Centre for Research in Quaker Studies. She has been a Quaker all her life. Her studies have included theology, philosophy, and queer theory, and she now researches and writes about Quakers, faith, and how communities change. Her first book in the 'Quaker Quicks' series, Telling the Truth about God, looked at Quaker ways of talking about the divine (Christian Alternative Press, 2019), and in 2020 her next book on liberal Quakerism, Theology from Listening, will be published by Brill. She also writes fiction, poetry, and a blog, which can be found at brigidfoxandbuddha.wordpress.com.
