The Rule of Christ: Themes in the Theology of James Nayler
21 in stock
James Nayler (1618-1660) was one of the most important early Quaker leaders and arguably the most gifted theologian of the first generation. In this online course, we will explore several key themes within his theology by paying close attention to his published writings. After looking at the radical religious context, we will examine Nayler’s understanding of the work of Christ and the way of Christ and consider how this informed the practical aspects of his theology which had radical political, economic, and ecological implications. Does Nayler’s theological vision help us to make sense of his prophetic sign at Bristol and subsequent conviction for blasphemy in 1656?
