Judy Goldberger

Judy Goldberger (Beacon Hill Friends Meeting, New England Yearly Meeting) grew up in a family steeped in the lived experience and recent stories of migration. She has been engaged in immigrant accompaniment and advocacy work of one kind or another for over 20 years, including among immigrant Friends. She is under the care of an oversight committee in her monthly meeting.

As a Birth Sister (community doula), she listened to immigrant women’s stories at their kitchen tables (including a Friend from El Salvador Yearly Meeting). She was a pastoral visitor in immigration detention for eight years until the local detention center was shuttered. She is currently a hotline volunteer with the Boston Immigrant Justice Accompaniment Network. As a nurse, she is active with her hospital’s Immigration Task Force and has testified before the state legislature on the health impact of local proposals.

Judy has helped organize consultations and educational workshops in her monthly, quarterly, and yearly meetings, and for Friends General Conference. As Northeast Regional Coordinator for Friends World Committee for Consultation Section of the Americas, she is weaving relationships among the region’s established Yearly Meetings and newer immigrant-led Friends Churches
