Lisa Cumming

Lisa Cumming currently works for Quakers in Britain on peacebuilding and nonviolence with Peacebuilding in Britain and Turning the Tide East Africa. This work includes accompanying civil society practitioners, organisations, and networks working on peace and conflict in communities in Britain. Lisa also accompanies (via zoom!) local partners working on nonviolence and peacebuilding programmes in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi. Accompaniment includes providing a listening ear, sharing conflict analysis, connecting peace theory and practice, and/or practical hands-on support. Lisa aims to work alongside others, where invited, in a spirit of humility, reciprocity/mutuality, and, at times, solidarity. Lisa is drawn towards conflict transformation approaches and the two hands of nonviolence (Barbara Deming, 1971).

Previously, Lisa coordinated a peace network rooted in Peace Studies at the University of Bradford (supported by Quaker Peace Studies Trust). This work included contributing to teaching, research, knowledge exchange, community dialogue and practical peacebuilding interventions.

Lisa is currently undertaking a part time thesis listening to the stories and reflections of local peacebuilders.

She lives in the Calder Valley and spends as much time as possible out on the wily, windy moors.
