Timothy Ashworth draws on biblical study, retreat work and interfaith dialogue to illuminate the nature of spiritual transformation.
Galatians: Paul’s Gospel of Liberation
‘For freedom Christ has set us free’. This strange phrase is the heart of Paul’s teaching in this letter. The liberation you experienced is meant to continue to guide the whole of your life. This is Paul’s most radical expression of how the experience of the Spirit can transform how people think of themselves and treat each other. We will tackle the text step by step, aiming to bring Paul’s words alive, noting how issues of translation sometimes obscure the force of what he says. Along the way, we will see deep connections with Quaker understandings of the living word and Paul’s confidence that faith in that word can bring about a new creation.
