Reframing Christian Thought: A Conversation With James Alison
19:00 - 20:30
In October, the theologian James Alison will be bringing his distinctive approach to a number of biblical and Quaker topics. This standalone evening session will give you a chance to get a taste of his approach. His perspective is clearly shaped by his training as a Catholic priest and theologian but both his pastoral work and his thought have, in turn, been framed by the experience of being openly gay. That reality has forced upon him an understanding of what is involved in acting and speaking faithfully, resisting often hostile pressure to be silent and withdraw. Crucial to the confidence James has needed was his discovery of the work of René Girard which has led to him becoming a remarkably accessible interpreter of this influential thinker. There is a good deal of James’s work to be found at jamesalison.com but this evening will allow you to meet him yourself.
All times given are UK time.
