Public lecture, Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, 2012
John Woolman, an American Quaker preacher who travelled through the American colonies and England, is perhaps best known for his opposition to slavery and the slave trade. He also spoke out against cruelty to animals, economic injustices and oppression, conscription and military taxation. In this lecture, James Proud, a direct descendent of Woolman, talks about the process of writing and editing Woolman’s works.
James Proud, an American Quaker scholar, is the editor of John Woolman and the Affairs of Truth, a collection of Woolman’s letters and essays (Inner Light Books, 2010).
