The Pharisee and the Tax Collector: exploring the parable together

This famous parable involving two contrasting individuals praying in the Jerusalem Temple has lost much of its edge from the caricature images associated with the two figures. In fact, it’s unsettling from the outset, making it difficult to see exactly where goodness resides. That’s how Jesus intends it – ambiguous in a way that makes his hearers, and us, question the purity of our own motives.

This standalone online session for meetings includes Tim Ashworths’s recording and commentary on the parable, followed by material and questions for a guided small group discussion finishing with a live session with Tim. It has been planned as a unit to be held over two hours but, if preferred, meetings may spread out the talk, group discussion and live webinar over anything up to a two-week period.
