20-23 June 2024

The conference will begin at 16:00 (UK time) on Thursday and end at lunchtime (UK time) on Sunday.

Lancaster University

George Fox 1

Woodbrooke, Quaker Studies Research Association and Conference of Quaker Historians and Archivists working in partnership.

The 2024 Quaker Studies Conference provides an opportunity to hear the latest scholarship in the field. The anniversary of the birth of George Fox offers a valuable point for reflection by historians, archivists and others to consider the life and times of Fox as well as his legacies, and a coming together of new and exciting ideas around Friends and their history. The George Richardson Lecture will be given by Nigel Smith.

The conference, jointly held by the Centre for Research in Quaker Studies, the Quaker Studies Research Association, and the Conference of Quaker Historians and Archivists, is ideal for anyone researching Quakerism or those interested in the findings of the research. This is a major transatlantic event and a very exciting opportunity to hear the latest scholarship in Quaker studies.

A four day event, we hope to include an excursion for those attending in-person to a particular area of interest in early Quaker history.

The conference will be held at Lancaster University Conference Centre from 16:00 (UK time) on Thursday 20 June, up to and including lunch on Sunday 23 June 2024.

There are a limted number of residential places in the University accommodation but you can also book to attend in-person each day and arrange your own accommodation. The Lancaster House Hotel is a short walk from the conference centre or there is a wide range of accommodation in Lancaster city centre which is a short bus ride away.

Travel information can be found on the Lancaster University website.

There is also the option to attend the whole conference online – sessions will also run from Thursday evening until Sunday lunchtime (UK times).

For anyone requiring accommodation the nights before and after the conference, you will need to arrange this yourself directly with the university, further information can be found on the Lancaster University conference webpage. Do mention if you have a residential booking for the conference so that they can try to keep you in the same room (although this may not be possible due to other bookings).
