Gordon Benson has a background in co-operative and voluntary sector development and in that role he helped third sector organisations access the European Structural Funds to finance their work.

He has been active in politics, particularly on environmental issues, since he was at college. Gordon has been on a number of Quaker committees including two on environmental and economic issues and it was through working on those that led him to want to promote the Eco Church award scheme.
