Having been brought up in a clergy home and explored the Anglican priesthood after studying German at University in Manchester, Phil was drawn to Quakers and sought membership in 1988. Once the heavy demands of professional life reduced, Phil undertook the residential Equipping for Ministry programme from 2011-2013, where his nascent interest in Isaac Penington was properly kindled. One of the advantages of lockdown for him was the extended opportunity to explore in depth the many words Isaac wrote in his lifetime, both letters and ‘Works’. It is on that experience, that he now wishes to share the insights gained with others.
