Irena Marusincova

I am a teacher, and also qualified practitioner of Mediated Learning Experience, an interactive system developed by Reuven Feuerstein designed to develop intellect and moral virtues in children. I found that Quaker principles had much in accord with MLE principles and set out to learn more about the similarities and differences. My thesis will be comparing Quaker work with children to Feuerstein’s principles. As MLE is codified and systematised and the work with Quaker children is not at all like that, my practical research consist in interviewing people involved with Children’s Meetings and analysing the guiding beliefs, principles and practices they talk about.

About Irena Marusincova

(Czech Republic)

I have decided for this area of study of two main reasons: first, fascinated by Shmuel Feuerstein who did the first steps to reveal the rich values system on which Mediated Learning Experience is based and to show MLE’s potential in values education, I want to explore this potential in more detail and in context of other approaches to values education; secondly, admiring the work of leaders and helpers of Quaker Children’s meetings I want to learn more about their approaches to children and to find out how the values transmission occurs in context of Children’s meetings and if there are there some features of MLE to find.
